SPEC WATCH OCTOBER 5, 2026
Featured Publishers: Marvel Comics (20), Image Comics (11), DC Comics (8), Dark Horse Comics (4), IDW Publishing (4), Dynamite Entertainment (3)
This is a report of what checks out on every book hitting FOC before Monday's cutoff, not a list of picks. The goal is to give you the data so you can decide what to do with it.
Two Hot Spec books lead this FOC: DC All In Saga Darkseid Vs The World #1 and Justice League Dark Realm Special #1. Both carry Confirmed status. The one potential first this week is the Scavenged in Uncanny X-Men #38, and Vampirella crossing into the Pathfinder universe rounds out the Priority group.
18 priority books this week, 45 confirmed, 59 with intel. FOC closes Monday. Below is a curated slice of the Priority and Hot Spec set, not the full list.
PRIORITY BOOKS
DC All In Saga Darkseid Vs The World #1 (DC Comics, $6.99, Snyder & Williamson/Greene & Putri): Snyder and Williamson are using this one-shot to set up the Absolute Crisis event and walk through Darkseid's origin as Uxus. Snyder on a DC event seed with Sanford Greene on the Darkseid chapter is the read here. The origin material is what gives this a shelf life past the event hype.
Justice League Dark Realm Special #1 (DC Comics, $6.99, Mora/Mora): Dan Mora writing and drawing is the angle. The solicit confirms the first solo origin of Cadejos, the fire-breathing wolf character from Justice League Unlimited.
X-Men United #9 (Marvel Comics, $4.99, Ewing): Confirmed spotlight on Justina LaGuardia, aka Superior, the mutant whose power is to be the better of any mutant she faces. The book puts her on a collision course with Emma Frost. There is a 1:25 Elizabeth Torque incentive cover.
Uncanny X-Men #38 (Marvel Comics, $4.99, Simone): Potential first appearance of the Scavenged, four mutants built in the labs under the former Graymalkin Prison as knockoffs of Wolverine. Four firsts in one issue is the hook, and the Wolverine-adjacent angle is what gives these legs if any of them stick. The 1:25 Martin Coccolo cover is the incentive on this one.
Pathfinder Vampirella Blade Of Darkness #1 (Dynamite Entertainment, Burnham/Dallocchio): Confirmed crossover: Vampirella enters the Pathfinder universe for the first time. The vampire lord Zaloch runs a ritual to summon a demon and gets Vampirella instead, which kicks off a crossover with Golarion heroes Kyra and Merisiel. Incentive covers run 1:20 down to 1:10 across virgin and black-and-white formats.
ON THE RADAR
Spider-Woman #1 (Marvel Comics, $4.99, Watters): Jessica Drew bonds with the Carnage symbiote in this confirmed event, launching as part of her 50th anniversary run. The 1:100 Mark Brooks virgin is this book's steepest incentive, with a 1:25 Puppeteer Lee standard underneath it.
Terminal #4 (Image Comics, $3.99, Kirkman & Casey/Kubert & McCaig): Solicits confirm the fate of Marilyn Howe and a new enemy entering the picture. Kirkman and Joe Casey with Andy Kubert on art is the pairing here. The incentive covers run deep: a 1:100 Whilce Portacio, a 1:50 Jae Lee, and a 1:25 Ben Oliver.
Friendly Neighborhood Mary Jane #1 (Marvel Comics, $4.99, Allen): Confirmed: the book introduces Watson Productions as Mary Jane moves into a producer role, with Chameleon as the opposition. Spins out of Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger and Queen In Black. The 1:100 J Scott Campbell virgin and a 1:25 Simone Di Meo are the incentives.
Detective #1 (Bad Idea, $9.99, D. Lapham & M. Lapham/D. Lapham): The Laphams on a neo-noir sci-fi debut. Val Vallez wakes up with a revolver in her hand and a dead body beside her, no memory, and she happens to be a homicide detective working her own husband's murder. Stray Bullets creators on a fresh Bad Idea #1 is the draw. There is a 1:50 Lee Elias metal cover on this one.
RUMOR WATCH
Black Cat #16 (rumor-based) (Marvel Comics, $4.99, Wilson): Multiple reports point to Felicia Hardy being revealed as a mutant in this "X-Con" opener with Emma Frost pulling her into an X-Men-heavy job. The solicit teases the "Felicia isn't a mutant...is she?" line without confirming it, so this is intel, not a lock. The 1:50 Stuart Immonen virgin is the incentive.
DNX #4 (rumor-based) (Marvel Comics, $4.99, MacKay): Reports suggest this sets up a Cyclops vs. Beast confrontation heading into the X-Men/Fantastic Four event finale. The solicit confirms the regroup and the Chairman's scheme but not the specific showdown, so treat the character beat as unverified. A 1:25 Tony Daniel cover is on the book.
Batman Bad Seeds Sunrise #1 (rumor-based) (DC Comics, $8.99, Fraction & Wilson/Camuncoli & Rathburn): The spec here is a possible Dan Mora foil variant (Cover E) that showed up on a retailer listing but has not been officially solicited. The issue itself is the confirmed oversize conclusion to Bad Seeds with Fraction and Wilson writing, but the Mora foil is the unconfirmed piece.
HOW TO READ THE FLAGS
None of these mean "buy this." They say what the research found on the book before the cutoff.
-
Confirmed: the publisher's own solicit, preview pages, or an official announcement backs the claim for this exact book and issue. Anything less is Likely (several rumor-class sources agree), Unverified (nothing proves it either way), or marked rumor-based in the text.
-
Potential First: a source or the solicit says a character or version debuts here. It stays "potential" until the book is in hand. Reprints and facsimiles are never counted as firsts.
-
Buzz Flag: more than one source is talking about the book. It measures chatter, not truth.
-
Priority Books: our two top tiers. Hot Spec is a confirmed potential first or a confirmed origin story. High Priority is a potential first that only rumor or chatter backs so far, or a confirmed key event (a death, a milestone, a crossover) without a first.
-
Watch: chatter from more than one source, a confirmed event by itself, a 1:50 or higher ratio, or a #1 carrying an unverified claim.
-
With Intel: the book has a written spec summary, of any status.
-
Ratio Variant: a cover a shop gets only by ordering a set number of the regular cover. 1:25 means one per twenty-five.
More signal.
Less noise.
