SPEC WATCH OCTOBER 19, 2026
Featured Publishers: Image Comics (13), Marvel Comics (13), Dark Horse Comics (6), Bad Idea (5), DC Comics (4), Dynamite Entertainment (2)
Three Hot Spec potential firsts lead the week, and all three are confirmed: The Scavenger in Spectacular Spider-Man #6, Crucible in Wolverine: Paradise #2, and the title character in Adventure Time Bonnie The Vampire Hunter #1. Add two more potential firsts with High Priority flags on Victoria Jaguar #1 and the mystery woman in Venom #2.
FOC closes Monday at noon.
PRIORITY BOOKS
Spectacular Spider-Man #6 (Marvel, $4.99, Dan Slott). The potential first of The Scavenger. Marvel's solicitation introduces the new villain here, and the issue also carries more of Turncoat, whose debut ran in #5. There's a 1:25 cover by Rickie Yagawa. Confirmed.
Wolverine: Paradise #2 (Marvel, $4.99, Dan Panosian). Crucible debuts here per Marvel's solicitation, so this is the potential first. Logan is in Miami cleaning up Dazzler's nightclub turf, and Crucible is the new player tied to Wolverine's destiny. The 1:25 is a Paco Medina cover. Confirmed.
Adventure Time Bonnie The Vampire Hunter #1 (Oni Press, $7.99). Potential first of Bonnie the Vampire Hunter per Oni's solicitation. It's a self-contained 56-page one-shot, an alternate-universe take on the Bubbline relationship from Caroline Cash and Tia Roxae. There's a 1:10 black and white cover by Cash. Confirmed.
Venom #2 (Marvel, $4.99, Charles Soule). Potential first of a new female character whose identity isn't confirmed yet. Eddie Brock is back bonded to his original symbiote, and the hook is a mystery woman the pair have fallen for. Who she is and whether the ID holds is the open question. There's a 1:25 cover by Simone Di Meo. High Priority.
Victoria Jaguar #1 (Mad Cave, $4.99, Mark London/Marco Rudy). Potential first of the title character. This is the newest entry in London's Underworld Universe, with painted art by Rudy. A man chasing impossible nightmares goes looking for Victoria Jaguar, an immortal guardian, and finds an unseen enemy already hunting her. High Priority.
ON THE RADAR
Transformers #38 (Image, $3.99, Robert Kirkman/Jason Howard, Mike Spicer). Skybound revealed Megatronus Rex, Megatron's new form, for this issue, so this is the potential first. The cover copy on this one is blunt: whatever emerged from Megatron's cocoon, the Autobots are not going to like it. There's a 1:50 by Valerio Schiti and Neeraj Menon and a 1:25 by Nick Bradshaw and Jim Charalampidis.
Legion Of Super-Heroes #3 (DC, $3.99, Joshua Williamson/Hayden Sherman). DC's solicitation confirms a death in this issue, framed as a heartbreaking loss for Lightning Lad. Brainiac 1 of 5 and Matter-Eater Lad factor into it. The tagline is "ONE. WILL. DIE." Confirmed death, no name attached in the solicit.
Snail (Image, $5.99, Garth Ennis/John McCrea). Ennis and McCrea on a standalone horror one-shot. The pitch is a deal-with-the-devil story, except the devil is a talking snail offering your heart's desire for a price. It's from the Ninth Circle line.
Jean Grey #1 (Marvel, $4.99, Jed MacKay). A new #1 picking up in the aftermath of DNX, with Jean touching down carrying the Phoenix Force and the question of whether she holds control. It's the first book after DNX in Marvel's reading order, and
our DNX guide has every book on one page. There's a 1:100 virgin by Ito and a 1:25 by Miguel Mercado. Confirmed.
The Fury Of Firestorm #8 (DC, $4.99, Jeff Lemire/Rafael de Latorre). This one sets up a confrontation with original Firestorm Ronnie Raymond, with Lorraine on the hunt for him. DC has also confirmed the series was extended to 15 issues. Confirmed.
Jessica Jones: Alias #1 (of 5) (Marvel, $4.99, Brian Michael Bendis/Michael Gaydos). Marvel's December solicitation confirms Bendis and Gaydos are back with a new five-issue series for Jessica's 25th anniversary. A routine abduction case pulls her into the stranger corners of the Marvel Universe. Covers: David Mack on A, a 25th anniversary cover by Corin Howell, a 1:25 by Ito, Miguel Mercado, and Mack's virgin at 1:50. Confirmed.
Rampant Swine #1 (Ignition Press, $4.99, Simon Spurrier). A bloody King Arthur reimagining. The distributor listing carries a Mike Mignola cover at 1:10 and a 1:20 Mignola cover signed by Chris Mitten. Confirmed.
RUMOR WATCH
Warbird #1 (rumor-based) (Bad Idea, $5.99, Derek Kolstad, Robert Venditti/Alex Maleev). This 2nd printing comes with an unconfirmed report that an A-list star signed on for a film adaptation of the series. Kolstad created John Wick. The film report is not verified, so treat the casting angle as rumor.
HOW TO READ THE FLAGS
Each flag says what the research found on the book before the cutoff.
-
Confirmed: the publisher's own solicit, preview pages, or an official announcement backs the claim for this exact book and issue. Anything less is Likely (several rumor-class sources agree), Unverified (nothing proves it either way), or marked rumor-based in the text.
-
Potential First: a source or the solicit says a character or version debuts here. It stays "potential" until the book is in hand. Reprints and facsimiles are never counted as firsts.
-
Buzz Flag: more than one source is talking about the book. It measures chatter, not truth.
-
Priority Books: our two top tiers. Hot Spec is a confirmed potential first or a confirmed origin story. High Priority is a potential first that only rumor or chatter backs so far, or a confirmed key event (a death, a milestone, a crossover) without a first.
-
Watch: chatter from more than one source, a confirmed event by itself, a 1:50 or higher ratio, or a #1 carrying an unverified claim.
-
With Intel: the book has a written spec summary, of any status.
-
Ratio Variant: a cover a shop gets only by ordering a set number of the regular cover. 1:25 means one per twenty-five.
