The Verdict — April 22, 2026
YTD: 60.0% accuracy across 5 calls · Still Developing: 6 · Watch Intel: 9 · Surprises: 0
WHAT IS THE VERDICT?
Every week, The Long Box runs spec intelligence before books ship. FOC Drop on Tuesday. Spec Watch on Sunday. Then the books actually come out, and the secondary market does what it does. The Verdict is where we come back and grade our own calls. Did the rumors hold up? Did the books move? Did we get anything wrong? We run this every Thursday, on the books that released the day before. Nobody else publicly scorecards their own predictions. We figured somebody should.
Clean sheet this week. We made one Tier 1 call and it hit. A "hit" means pre-ship signal accuracy: sellout on FOC, sustained demand through release, or rumor verified in the book. Not secondary market profit. The scorecard shows one confirmed call with perfect accuracy. Six other books remain in development, tracked but not graded until evidence emerges. Watch Intel tracked nine additional books with mixed outcomes, and nothing moved that we missed entirely.
The single scorecard hit delivered on timing. Lost Fantasy connected to the Fireborn spinoff series that launched mid-month with immediate sellout and reprint announcement. Our intelligence flagged the April 2026 timing correctly, though this was a collected edition play rather than a single-issue spec.
THE HITS

What happened: Search results confirm Fireborn #1 released April 15/22, 2026 and sold out with reprint announcement on 04/17/2026. The spinoff timing was accurate.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW
These books had pre-release flags but weren't elevated to explicit calls. Here is what happened.

Amazing Spider Man Spider Versity #1 (Marvel Comics) — The watch flag was wrong. No new villain first appearances materialized and the secondary market remained quiet with no recorded sales above cover price.
Marvel/DC Spider Man/Superman #1 (Marvel Comics) — The watch flag was wrong. No evidence surfaced of the anticipated Gary Frank, Humberto Ramos, or Frank Miller variant covers, and the secondary market remained quiet with no recorded sales activity.
