FOC Drop: March 23 — Image Takes the Week by Volume

FOC Drop: March 23 — Image Takes the Week by Volume

Image Comics doesn't usually outpace Marvel and DC combined, but this week they're sitting at 112 titles across 32 series while the Big Two clock in at 83 and 76 respectively. That's not a fluke — it's a coordinated push anchored by Fireborn (11 covers), Corpse Knight (9), and a deep bench of ongoing titles getting variant treatment. Meanwhile, Dynamite is running a different playbook entirely: 72 titles across just 8 series, with Mumm-Ra and Thundercats X Silverhawks each carrying 18 variants. This is a high-variance week for shops managing minimums.

By the Numbers

  • 462 total titles across 139 series and 25 publishers
  • Publisher breakdown: Image: 112 | Marvel: 83 | DC: 76 | Dynamite: 72 | Boom!: 16 | IDW: 12 | Oni: 11 | Titan: 11
  • 116 ratio/incentive variants (~25% of the list)
  • Format split: 424 single issues, 25 trades, 13 hardcovers
  • Price range: $3.99 – $225.00

Ratio Variant Watch

116 ratio and incentive variants means roughly one in four books on this list requires minimum order commitments. Dynamite is driving a significant chunk of that — Mumm-Ra and Thundercats X Silverhawks each carry 18 variants, Vampirella adds another 14. Image's Fireborn contributes 11, Corpse Knight adds 9. If you're not modeling order minimums against realistic sellthrough, this week will expose that gap quickly.

Worth Noting

Dynamite's strategy this week is transparent: 72 titles across 8 series is a pure variant volume play, not editorial depth. Shops leaning into 80s nostalgia IP should run comps on recent Thundercats and Mumm-Ra performance before committing to deep stacks.

The price ceiling hits $225 with a Blade Runner 4-pack limited to 500 copies. A Redcoat Deluxe hardcover at $59.99 also makes the list. Neither is a typical FOC week purchase — but both are worth knowing about. Bad Idea has 3 books in play this week as well.

Image leading the week by title count is worth watching as a longer-term signal. If this becomes a pattern, they're quietly rewriting how they compete for shelf space.
