This is a loaded FOC week. A confirmed character death in Venom, a historically important potential first in Batgirl, and a major creative transition on Spawn are all closing Monday. Eighty-nine confirmed rumors across 543 titles, with 21 flagged as priority. FOC closes tomorrow night. Here is what the data is telling us.
Confirmed death of Paul Rabin. Character deaths always generate aftermarket movement, and this one has already picked up significant online discussion. Spoiler variants are expected to be the main driver here. Death issues tend to spike on release day and cool within a week or two, so the play is access, not long hold. Get copies secured before FOC closes and evaluate the spoiler variant situation as previews drop later this week.
Confirmed potential first of Alysia Yeoh, the first openly transgender character in mainstream DC Comics. This is a historically significant introduction regardless of where you land on the spec conversation. Books that carry cultural weight tend to hold value differently than standard potential firsts. Miyazawa's art style fits the character perfectly. At $4.99, the entry point is reasonable. Watch for ratio variant allocation on this one.
Confirmed potential first of Knull's "god of light" form, featuring a redesigned white costume and power upgrade. This is a significant status change for a character who has already proven his aftermarket legs. Costume redesigns that stick tend to carry long-term spec value, and the visual contrast of a white Knull is strong cover material. Marvel knows what they have here, so expect the variant program to reflect the demand.
Confirmed: Felicia Hardy acquires three of the six Infinity Stones. This is a major storyline event that repositions Black Cat as a cosmic-level player. Infinity Stone storylines have historically driven collector interest across the entire Marvel line, and concentrating three stones in one character is unusual. The key question is whether this sticks or gets reversed quickly. Either way, the issue itself becomes a key marker in the run.
Confirmed potential first of the Red King, a son of Superman who becomes the new King of Apokolips. That is a lot of spec weight in one sentence. A new Superman family member taking the throne of Apokolips is the kind of storyline that either becomes a major ongoing plot thread or a footnote. PKJ has earned the benefit of the doubt on Superman books. If the Red King sticks, this becomes a key issue in the Superman mythos.
Unverified, but the cover art is doing the talking. Signals point toward a significant franchise secret reveal and a new character introduction. Kirkman and Williamson collaborating on an Energon Universe special at $3.99 is already a strong value proposition. If the character introduction pans out, this becomes a potential first at a very accessible price point. The Energon Universe line has been consistently well received, and specials tend to carry outsized importance in connected universes. Worth the order even without full confirmation.
Confirmed "Bloody Blind Bag" program featuring limited-edition variants of key back issues. At $29.99 this is a premium entry, but Ennis and Robertson returning to The Boys with a blind bag mechanic targeting key back issues is designed to create chase demand. The program's success will depend on what is actually in the bags. If the variant pool includes genuinely scarce homages, the secondary market will respond. High risk, high reward territory.
Likely: The True Believer Blind Bag program is rumored to contain ultra-rare Frank Miller sketch variants alongside Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal photo variants. Miller sketch variants would be significant pulls. Photo variants tying into the MCU cast add a media crossover angle. This is another blind bag play, but the Daredevil brand and the Miller connection elevate it above a standard relaunch #1. The rumor is classified as likely, not confirmed, so temper expectations on the rarest pulls.
Confirmed: Viola Davis is producing the film adaptation. Media adaptation confirmations are one of the most reliable spec catalysts in the hobby. Stranger Comics is a smaller publisher, which means lower initial orders and tighter supply if demand spikes. At $4.99 for a #1 with a confirmed Hollywood attachment, this is worth securing copies before the broader market catches on. The production timeline will determine how long the window stays open.
Confirmed major creative transition. Matthew Rosenberg begins as the new ongoing writer with a five-page story in this issue before taking full duties on #376 with artist Stephen Segovia. The series jumps ahead one year into a world where Heaven and Hell have abandoned Earth, introducing "The 400," a cabal of angels, demons, vampires, and alien entities. Al Simmons is restored to humanity and living anonymously in Manhattan. This is a new starting point for the entire Spawn universe, and transition issues on long-running books tend to carry spec weight when the new direction sticks. If Rosenberg delivers, this becomes the key issue of his run.
Iron Man #5 (Marvel) carries a rumored potential first of a new villain built from A.I.M./Madame Masque armor tech. New villain introductions in flagship titles tend to get attention, especially when they tie into established organizations. Worth a look if you are already ordering Marvel this week.
Ultimate Endgame #4 (Marvel) has a classified cover hiding a rumored character reveal. Marvel does not classify covers without reason. The Ultimate line has been delivering on its reveals consistently, and this is worth ordering on faith in the creative team if you have been following the run.
Absolute Superman #19 (DC Comics, $4.99, Jason Aaron/Rafa Sandoval) has a rumored King Shazam identity reveal as Teth-Adam. If confirmed, that is a significant Absolute Universe development. Aaron has been building toward something with the Shazam mythology in this line, and a Teth-Adam reveal would connect multiple ongoing threads.
Ghost Machine Official Guidebook #2 (Image) has confirmed teases of future storylines across four universes. Guidebooks are not traditionally spec books, but when they contain first looks at upcoming characters or teams, they can become retroactive keys. Worth grabbing at cover price for the intel alone.
Olympus Saga: Megalith #1 (Bad Idea, $5.99, Matt Kindt/Lewis LaRosa) launches with a 30 Lewis LaRosa variant covers program. Bad Idea's distribution model already creates scarcity, and 30 variants from a single artist is an unusual program structure. LaRosa's art commands a following. The variant chase here is the spec angle.
New Disney IP launch from Dynamite with a premium mystery variant blind bag containing three limited-edition covers. Covers by Nicoletta Baldari, Natacha Bustos, J. Scott Campbell, and Agnese Eterno. Dynamite has warned that blind bag allocations may occur. Disney IP #1 issues with variant programs tend to generate collector interest, especially with a Campbell cover in the mix. This is the third blind bag play on this week's FOC list alongside Boys Bloody and Daredevil True Believer.
Nectar #1 (Vault, $10.00) is generating variant cover speculation at a premium price point. Vault titles can be low ordered relative to demand when buzz hits. At $10.00, the margin for error is tighter, but Vault has produced breakout books before.
Ben 10 #1 (Dynamite) has confirmed misinformation circulating from a leaked ashcan that is driving speculation. Be cautious here. When the source of buzz is misinformation rather than actual content, the demand can evaporate once corrections circulate. Verify before over-ordering.
Two rumors were debunked during this cycle, and we want to make sure you have the corrections before FOC closes.
Silver Surfer #3 (Marvel) had a satirical Galactus rumor circulating that has been debunked by the official synopsis. The rumor was never sourced from credible channels, and the synopsis confirms a standard storyline. Do not order extra copies based on the Galactus chatter.
Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1 (Marvel) had a rumor that Carol Danvers would revert to the Ms. Marvel identity. This has been debunked. Carol remains Captain Marvel. If you were planning orders around a nostalgia reversion play, adjust accordingly.
This is why we track debunked rumors alongside confirmed ones. Knowing what is NOT happening is just as valuable as knowing what is, especially when FOC is closing in less than 24 hours.
