Thor, Vol. 6 #3 is the third chapter of 'The Devourer King' story arc, the opening salvo of Donny Cates and Nic Klein's 2020 relaunch of the Thunder God. Cates picks up with Thor newly crowned All-Father of Asgard, tasked with defending the Ten Realms from Galactus and a cosmic threat that dwarfs anything Odinson has faced as king. Issue #3 delivers the headline confrontation of the arc: Thor versus Beta Ray Bill, with Galactus looming over the whole affair. It is a straight-up battle issue, and Klein's art is built for exactly that kind of scale.
This copy is the 4th printing variant, with cover art by Nic Klein. Later printings of early Cates-run issues were issued to meet demand after the arc found its audience; the 4th printing carries Nic Klein's own cover rather than the original Olivier Coipel cover, making it a distinct object from the first-print edition. Klein's art style, dense with cosmic weight and physical force, suits the story's tone and gives the cover a different character from Coipel's more classical rendering.
The Donny Cates and Nic Klein run on Thor is the full creative team on both story and interior art, an unusual situation for a flagship Marvel title. 'The Devourer King' arc runs through the early issues of the volume and establishes the tone and stakes for the entire run.
