1st appearance of Keeve Trennis and 1st full appearance of Avar Kriss. Phil Noto regular cover.
Star Wars: The High Republic #1 is the launch issue of Marvel's 2021 ongoing series that opened Marvel's contribution to Lucasfilm's ambitious High Republic publishing initiative, set centuries before the Skywalker Saga during a golden age of the Jedi Order. Written by Cavan Scott with art by Ario Anindito and inks by Mark Morales, the issue introduces Padawan Keeve Trennis as its central figure alongside Marshal Avar Kriss, establishing the characters, the Starlight Beacon, and the Nihil threat that drive the entire phase of the initiative.
This is the Regular Cover A by Phil Noto, whose clean, expressive style gives the series a distinct identity separate from the main-line Star Wars books. The issue carries two confirmed first appearances: the first appearance of Keeve Trennis, the series' lead Padawan, and the first full appearance of Avar Kriss, the High Republic's defining Jedi Marshal. Both characters anchor the High Republic era across comics, novels, and audiobooks, making this the primary key issue of the entire initiative's comic run.
The story arc is 'There Is No Fear,' with this chapter titled 'Trial By Ordeal.' The cover date is March 2021, with an in-shop release of January 6, 2021. Cover price is $3.99.
