Jamie Tyndall virgin variant cover, 7ate9 Comics exclusive.
Red Sonja, Vol. 5 #1 launched in February 2019 as Dynamite Entertainment's relaunch of the character under writer Mark Russell, whose sharp, character-driven scripts brought fresh critical attention to the sword-and-sorcery title. Interior art is by Mirko Colak. The first issue arrived with an unusually large field of variant covers, and the 7ate9 Comics virgin variant with cover art by Jamie Tyndall is among the more visually distinct of them: a virgin presentation strips the trade dress entirely, leaving only Tyndall's painted artwork across the full cover surface.
Virgin variants occupy a specific corner of the Dynamite collector ecosystem. Dynamite has regularly partnered with specialty comic shops to produce store-exclusive virgin covers tied to their most commercially visible launches, and a Red Sonja #1 was exactly the kind of event that generated them. Tyndall's cover art, uninterrupted by logos or indicia, is the entire visual statement here.
Mark Russell's Vol. 5 run is now a completed chapter in Red Sonja's long publishing history at Dynamite, which makes this first issue a natural starting point for readers approaching the run as a collected artifact. The virgin variant is the format for collectors who want the artwork front and center.
