Youngblood Series 1 Dutch, McFarlane Toys '95

Dutch is part of McFarlane Toys' 1995 Youngblood Series 1 line, the company's first foray into Rob Liefeld's Image Comics superhero team. Youngblood was one of the flagship titles of the early Image era, and McFarlane's figures brought the line's hyper-detailed, highly stylized character designs into three dimensions at a moment when action figure aesthetics were being pushed harder than they ever had been. The line was short-lived; it was cancelled after this initial release, making the full Series 1 assortment the only McFarlane Toys Youngblood figures ever produced. The card back bio has Dutch betrayed by the evil Cybernet organization and joining the Youngbloods to bring it down, fighting with a bionic enhanced arm and high-tech weapons including heads-up laser gear.

As a result, the Youngblood Series 1 figures occupy an interesting place in McFarlane Toys history: they represent an early crossover between McFarlane's rising production standards and Liefeld's distinctive character work, released at a time when both were at the center of the Image Comics phenomenon. Dutch is among the less commonly discussed figures in the assortment, which tends to make him harder to source than higher-profile teammates. For collectors focused on early McFarlane production or on building out a complete Youngblood set, he rounds out the lineup.
