We Only Find Them When They're Dead #1 launched Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo's science-fiction series at BOOM! Studios in September 2020. The book sets up a world in which humanity survives by harvesting the corpses of dead alien gods for resources; Captain Malik and the crew of the Vihaan II are the people who do that work, and Malik's obsession with finding a living god drives the central conflict. Di Meo's interior art is dense with color and detail, and the book's premise gave BOOM! one of its strongest debut issues of the year.
This copy is the Jenny Frison incentive variant, Cover E of the first printing. Frison's cover brings a different sensibility to this debut than the main Simone Di Meo cover. The first printing sold out at the distributor level around its release date, with BOOM! quickly announcing a second printing carrying a new Dan Mora cover; the Jenny Frison cover appeared only on the first printing. No incentive ratio for this variant has been established in available publisher materials.
