Christian Ward incentive variant cover.
We Only Find Them When They're Dead launched in September 2020 as one of BOOM! Studios' most talked-about science-fiction debuts, written by Al Ewing with interior art by Simone Di Meo. The series drops readers into a future where humanity harvests resources from the corpses of dead gods drifting through space, and one captain, the obsessive Malik, stakes everything on finding a living one. Issue #1 establishes the premise, the crew of the Vihaan II, and the scale of the world Ewing and Di Meo built together.
This is the incentive Christian Ward variant cover, one of several covers produced for the debut issue. Ward's cover work is immediately recognizable for its layered, painterly approach and vivid cosmic color sense, a natural fit for a series built around the imagery of dead alien gods floating in the void.
The first issue went to multiple printings after selling out at the distributor level, a strong indicator of the demand the series generated on release. This copy is the original first printing in the incentive Ward cover, in raw ungraded condition.
