Venom: Lethal Protector #1 is a landmark key issue marking the first time Venom headlined his own title. Written by Venom co-creator David Michelinie, the story follows Eddie Brock after making a truce with Spider-Man and relocating from New York to San Francisco, where he takes up the role of protector of the city's forgotten and homeless. The issue also features the first appearance of General Orwell Taylor, the father of one of Venom's past victims who assembles a team of super-powered mercenaries to hunt Venom down. Spider-Man appears as a guest star. The iconic red holo-grafx foil cover by Mark Bagley and Sam de la Rosa remains one of the most recognizable covers of the era.
