Thanos Vol. 2 #13 is the opening chapter of the 'Thanos Wins' story arc by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw, and it carries one of the most significant character debuts in recent Marvel history: the first appearance of Cosmic Ghost Rider. Set in a possible future where Thanos has conquered all of existence, the issue introduces a version of Frank Castle who became the new Ghost Rider and eventually pledged himself to Thanos as his herald. The concept recontextualized the Ghost Rider mythology in a way that immediately resonated with readers, and Cosmic Ghost Rider went on to anchor multiple solo titles and crossover appearances.
This is the second printing variant, with cover art by series interior artist Geoff Shaw. Shaw's work on 'Thanos Wins' defined the visual language of the arc, and the second printing cover gives his art the spotlight without the logo and UPC clutter of the original. The 2nd printing arrived in January 2018 as retailer demand for the issue outpaced the original print run. Silver Surfer and Galactus also appear in the issue, serving as key figures in the bleak future-universe Cates constructed around Thanos's ultimate victory.
