1st full appearance of Ninja Spawn. J. Scott Campbell virgin cover, no trade dress.
Spawn #301 is a genuine milestone in American comics: the issue that carried Spawn past Action Comics #1 and into the record as the longest-running creator-owned comic series. To mark the occasion, Image assembled a lineup that included Todd McFarlane, Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander, Clayton Crain, and Jerome Opeña contributing interior work, and commissioned a wide slate of variant covers. Cover P is J. Scott Campbell's virgin edition; no trade dress, no logo, no UPC break interrupting the image; presenting Campbell's painted Spawn composition in full, uninterrupted.
Campbell produced both a trade-dress and a virgin version of his cover, and the virgin edition (designated Cover P by Image) is the collector-preferred presentation of his artwork for this issue. Campbell handled pencils, inks, and colors himself, making it a wholly personal piece rather than a collaboration with a colorist. The cover sits alongside work by some of the most recognizable artists in the Spawn universe and stands on its own as a finished illustration.
The story arc collected across Spawn #298-301 as Spawn: The Record-Breaker follows Spawn through the events that led to the milestone. Characters present in the issue include Spawn (Al Simmons), Spawn (Jim Downing), and Violator. Writer Todd McFarlane led the milestone issue. This copy is raw, ungraded, and in its original single-issue format.
