1st full appearance of Ninja Spawn. Bill Sienkiewicz virgin cover.
Spawn #301 was a milestone issue for Image Comics: the series surpassed all previous records to become the longest-running creator-owned comic in the history of the medium. To mark the occasion, Todd McFarlane assembled a roster of contributors that included Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander, Clayton Crain, Jerome Opeña, and Bill Sienkiewicz, with a 52-page package spread across an extensive variant lineup. Cover N is Sienkiewicz's contribution in its virgin form, meaning the cover art runs edge to edge with no trade dress, logos, or cover copy interrupting the image.
Bill Sienkiewicz's work has been a fixture in comics since his run on Moon Knight in the early 1980s, and his painted, mixed-media approach has always sat apart from the house styles of any publisher. His cover for this issue brings that same sensibility to Spawn, and the virgin presentation strips away everything except the art itself. For collectors who want his art without trade dress, Cover N is the one.
