Spawn #301 marked a genuine milestone: at the time of publication in October 2019, it made Spawn the longest-running creator-owned comic book series in history. Todd McFarlane returned to pencil and ink pages himself for this issue, joined by Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander, Clayton Crain, Jerome Opeña, and Francesco Mattina in an assembly of artists that treated the anniversary as a genuine creative event rather than a reprint package.
Cover K is the Alex Ross painted variant, one of multiple covers released for #301. Ross brings his signature photorealistic, oil-painting-influenced style to the Spawn character, a treatment that sits in sharp contrast to the line work of the interior. This is the standard full-color Ross variant; the separately issued Alex Ross sketch edition was a numbered, website-exclusive run and is a distinct item.
