1st full appearance of Ninja Spawn. Todd McFarlane Black & White Artist Edition cover.
Spawn #301 arrived in October 2019 as the issue immediately following the series' milestone 300th number, making it the first chapter of Spawn's record-setting continuation as the longest-running creator-owned superhero comic in history. Todd McFarlane wrote the issue, which collects five stories under the titles 'The Record,' 'Adversaries,' 'Arsenal,' 'Brotherhood,' and 'Sacrifice,' with interior art contributed by McFarlane alongside Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander, Clayton Crain, Jerome Opeña, Francesco Mattina, and others.
Cover I is the Todd McFarlane Black & White variant, described by Image Comics as an Artist Edition. McFarlane drew the cover in black and white, presenting his own character in his own hand with no color processing. For a series that McFarlane launched in 1992 and has drawn on and off ever since, a B&W Artist Edition cover on a landmark post-milestone issue carries particular weight as a document of the creator's ongoing involvement with the book.
Characters appearing in the issue include Al Simmons as Spawn, Jim Downing as Spawn, and Violator. Image Comics published at cover price $4.99.
