Michael Avon Oeming cover.
Sinergy #1 is the debut issue of the creator-owned Image Comics series from writer-artist team Michael Avon Oeming and Taki Soma, published under Image's Shadowline imprint in November 2014. The story centers on Jess, a Portland teenager who discovers she can see interdimensional monsters after her first sexual experience; her father, already a seer, pulls her into the family's long-running work of hunting the creatures that feed on human sin, the 'sinergy' of the title. It is a genre hybrid rooted in urban fantasy and coming-of-age horror, with Oeming's bold, graphic linework shaping the visual tone throughout.
Oeming is best known as the co-creator of Powers with Brian Michael Bendis, and Sinergy represents his return to creator-owned storytelling at Image with Soma as his collaborator. The Shadowline imprint has been a home for character-driven, creator-owned work since its founding under Jim Valentino, and Sinergy fits squarely in that tradition. Issue #1 establishes the full setup: the monster mythology, the father-daughter dynamic, and Jess's reluctant entry into a world she cannot now unsee. The cover is by Oeming himself, rendered in the same high-contrast style that carries through the interior art.
