Jim Valentino cover.
ShadowHawk II #1 opens the second volume of Jim Valentino's ShadowHawk at Image Comics, published in May 1993. The issue carries the story title 'The Shadow of the Hawk' and picks up the thread of Paul Johnstone's ShadowHawk as a new vigilante with a pattern of racially slanted killings draws him back into action and into direct conflict with Vendetta's team of Regulators. Valentino handled the writing, cover art, and interior pencils, giving the book a singular authorial voice consistent across the page and the cover.
The second ShadowHawk series arrived as Image was still establishing itself, and Valentino's work on the character represented one of the more socially engaged corners of that early Image line. The direct-market edition is known for its die-cut embossed cover treatment, a production choice that set it apart from the standard newsstand release and that was common among premium early-90s Image books. At $3.50 cover price, it was among the higher-priced single issues of its era.
