Sentinel is one of the figures from McFarlane Toys' 1995 Youngblood Series 1 line, released under the Ultra Action Figures banner based on Rob Liefeld's Youngblood comic property. Youngblood launched in 1992 as one of the founding titles of Image Comics, and the McFarlane figure line arrived at the height of both the Image boom and the collector-figure explosion McFarlane was driving with Spawn. The line leaned into the hyper-muscled, heavily armored aesthetic that defined Liefeld's work, and Sentinel was among the characters given the treatment. The card back bio casts Sentinel as Marcus Langston, a government contractor who designed the prototype Sentinel armor and kept it; the fusion-powered exoskeleton grants enhanced strength, speed, and the power of flight, echoed in the figure's flip-out shoulder armor.
The Youngblood line was short-lived; production was cancelled before it gained significant retail traction, which makes surviving figures from Series 1 harder to locate three decades later, particularly in complete or unopened condition. These figures were produced in the same period McFarlane was establishing the visual and production standards that would define the collector action figure market for the rest of the decade. As a piece of mid-90s comics and toy history, Sentinel represents both the Youngblood property at its commercial peak and McFarlane's early Ultra Action Figure era.
