Star Wars Unleashed General Grievous, Target Exclusive, Hasbro '06

The Star Wars Unleashed line was Hasbro's answer to the collector who wanted something beyond the standard 3.75-inch action figure format. Launched in the early 2000s, the Unleashed series produced large-scale, highly sculpted statuary-style figures that prioritized dramatic poses and fine detail over playability. General Grievous, the cybernetic Separatist commander and lightsaber collector introduced in Revenge of the Sith, was a natural fit for the format. His skeletal mechanical frame, flowing robes, and four-armed fighting stance gave sculptors plenty to work with, and the Unleashed treatment captures the menace of the character in a way the standard action figure scale simply cannot.

This 2006 release is the Target Exclusive repack of the earlier Unleashed General Grievous figure, issued as a single-retailer reissue for Target stores. Repack Unleashed figures from this era were produced in smaller quantities than wide-release waves and are somewhat harder to track down complete and carded than their mass-market counterparts, making the Target Exclusive designation relevant for completists working through the full Unleashed checklist. The repack uses new retail packaging rather than the original release's card, so this version has its own distinct identity in the line.

This example is the Target-exclusive cylinder edition, sealed, with the Only at Target badge and an original Target clearance sticker still on the front, a period artifact some collectors leave in place. Cylinder front and base are shown in the photos.
