The Department of Truth #1 launched James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds' conspiracy-horror series at Image Comics in September 2020. The series follows Cole Turner, a man recruited into a shadowy government agency that manages the literal reality-warping power of mass belief, where enough people believing something can make it true. The debut issue established the premise, the cast, and the book's distinctive paranoid atmosphere, and it sold out immediately, eventually running to a sixth and final printing before Image closed the presses on it.
This is Cover B, the Jenny Frison variant, a painted, character-focused cover in her usual style. Covers A and B were both open-order covers on the first printing, so this is a first-printing copy of one of the two.
Writer Tynion IV was coming off high-profile runs at DC when he launched this creator-owned project; artist Martin Simmonds' textured, collage-inflected interiors gave the book a look unlike anything else on the shelves in 2020. For collectors building a run, the Cover B first print is the Jenny Frison variant from the original release.
