1st issue of The Department of Truth and the first appearance of Cole Turner. Martin Simmonds regular cover.
The Department of Truth #1 is the debut issue of James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds' ongoing series for Image Comics, released September 30, 2020. The story centers on Cole Turner, a young FBI analyst drawn into a shadowy government agency built around a single, unsettling premise: conspiracy theories, believed hard enough by enough people, become real. The series arrives fully formed, with Tynion IV's tight, paranoid scripting matched by Simmonds' painterly, texture-heavy art style, which borrows as much from mixed-media collage as from traditional comics illustration.
This is the regular Cover A, featuring Martin Simmonds' original cover image. As the standard first-print cover of the debut issue, it represents the launch of one of Image's stronger horror and crime titles of the 2020s. The combination of an unconventional visual approach and a high-concept premise made this a closely watched series from its first solicitation through its release.
