Stanley 'Artgerm' Lau Cheetah 1:100 incentive variant cover.
DC's Year of the Villain Special #1 launched DC's 2019 event publishing initiative with a 25-cent one-shot that set the stage for the company-wide storyline running through dozens of titles that year. Written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV with interior art by Jim Cheung, the special serves as an event prologue, introducing the central conflict that would define DC's publishing slate across 2019. The low cover price was a deliberate point-of-entry strategy, making the issue widely accessible at retail.
Variant covers were produced alongside the Greg Capullo main cover, including an Alex Maleev cover featuring Lex Luthor, a Jim Cheung cover featuring the Batman Who Laughs, and a Stanley 'Artgerm' Lau cover featuring Cheetah. This copy is the Artgerm Cheetah cover, the 1:100 retailer incentive variant: stores could order one for every 100 copies of the regular cover they ordered.
