What Midnight is

Midnight is Marvel's new horror line. It tells alternate-universe versions of familiar heroes, so none of it happens in the main Marvel Universe. Marvel's teaser line for it was "The light had its turn." Every book in the line is rated Parental Advisory.

It opened strong. Marvel says the three #1s passed one million combined orders and sold out before they came out, and second printings arrive October 28: Steve Beach on Spider-Man, Kev Walker on Fantastic Four, and Dike Ruan on X-Men. Marvel has more Midnight news scheduled for its New York Comic Con panel on Friday, October 9, and we'll update this page after it.

The three books

Midnight X-Men #1 main cover by Dike Ruan
Midnight X-Men (Jonathan Hickman / Matteo Della Fonte, main covers by Dike Ruan). Hickman's return to the X-Men, set in a New York where vampires and the mutant "empyres" are sliding toward open war. Iceman gets a horror redesign of his own.
Midnight Spider-Man #1 main cover by Steve Beach
Midnight Spider-Man (Phillip Kennedy Johnson / ScieTronc, main covers by Steve Beach). A young Peter Parker, turned into something between man and spider by Oscorp. Issue #2 opens with Peter missing.
Midnight Fantastic Four #1 main cover by Kev Walker
Midnight Fantastic Four (Benjamin Percy / Kev Walker, who also draws the main covers). A scientist's discovery leaves him and three others changed in horrible ways. Issue #2 brings Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben together at Storm Systems.

Not part of Midnight

Jed MacKay's new Midnight Sons team (Moon Knight, Blade, Clea, Robbie Reyes and Daredevil) runs in Marc Spector: Moon Knight. Same word in the name, different line: that book is in the main Marvel Universe. If you follow it too, issue #10 closes for ordering the same day as the Midnight #2s, Monday, October 12.

Stay ahead of the rumors. Every FOC date, every week, free.
Midnight is a handful of books. The FOC list tracks every book from Marvel, DC, Image and the indies with its order-by date, free with registration. What came out this week is on the Release Day page.

Creative teams, order figures and second-printing details are as announced by Marvel. Collector's note: a cover is not a first appearance. Variant covers in this line show Midnight versions of characters; we only call a first when the story carries it.
