Origin of Cosmic Ghost Rider; Cosmic Ghost Rider revealed to be Frank Castle. Geoff Shaw cover.
Thanos Vol. 2 #15 is the climactic chapter of Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw's 'Thanos Wins' arc, the story that introduced Cosmic Ghost Rider to the Marvel Universe. This issue delivers the origin of Cosmic Ghost Rider and the revelation that the skull-flamed, chain-wielding figure is Frank Castle in the far future, a twist that immediately sent collectors back to earlier issues in the run and launched Castle's new identity into its own ongoing series. It is one of the more significant single issues Marvel published in 2018, and the 2nd printing exists specifically because the 1st printing sold through at the distributor level.
Cates and Shaw's collaboration on this title set a high bar for cosmic Marvel storytelling: Shaw's angular, heavy-shadowed artwork gives the far-future wasteland of the 'Thanos Wins' timeline a genuine sense of dread, and the issue's final pages land with the weight the arc earns. The story also involves the Fallen One, the Silver Surfer enslaved to a victorious Thanos, adding further character context that collectors of Silver Surfer material have noted. This 2nd printing carries the Geoff Shaw cover.
