Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol.5 #101A, IDW '20

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol. 5 #101 is a landmark issue on multiple levels: the first appearance of six new characters and the debut of Sophie Campbell as sole writer and artist of the mainline IDW series, taking over from the Waltz/Eastman era after eight years. Set six months after the cataclysmic events of #100 and Splinter's death, New York City has transformed around Mutant Town, a quarantine zone established by newly elected mayor Baxter Stockman following Old Hob's mutagen bomb. This issue introduces Mona Lisa — a mutant salamander and former college physics student, redesigned by Campbell for the IDW universe — along with her companion Lita. Mighty Mutanimals enforcers Bandit and Puggle also debut, as does Diamond and Bea. All six characters make their first appearance in the interior pages; their first cover appearance occurs on a separate retailer exclusive variant. Cover A features Campbell's group portrait of all five Turtles including Jennika, with colors by Ronda Pattison. Eastman and Waltz remain as story consultants.
