Art contributions by McFarlane, Liefeld, Lee, Silvestri, Larsen, and Ordway, from Jack Kirby concepts.
Phantom Force #1 is a December 1993 Image Comics release built around an unusual creative lineage: the series draws on unfinished work by Jack Kirby, adapting his concepts with a rotating roster of Image founders and collaborators. Writers Michael Thibodeux, Richard French, and Robert J. Sodaro shepherd the material, while the art credits read like a who's-who of early Image: McFarlane, Liefeld, Lee, Silvestri, Larsen, Williams, Ordway, and others contributed pages, with coloring by Steve Oliff and Olyoptics. The result is one of the more eclectic single issues from the first wave of Image publishing, carrying both the rough energy of the period and the novelty of Kirby-rooted concepts filtered through the studio's founding talents.
The characters in this issue include O-Sensei, Apocalypse (Phantom Force), and Probe (Phantom Force), figures native to the Phantom Force mythology rather than the shared Image universe at large. At a $2.50 cover price, it sits squarely in the standard range for the era. This is a raw, ungraded copy.
