Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the third mainline entry in Square Enix's long-running Deus Ex series, released for PlayStation 3 in 2011. A prequel to the original 2000 game, it follows Adam Jensen, a security executive who is rebuilt with cybernetic augmentations after a corporate attack leaves him near death. The game melds first-person action with deep RPG systems, letting players approach every situation through combat, stealth, or social manipulation. The central narrative wrestles with themes of human augmentation, corporate power, and personal identity, and it holds up as one of the more substantive science-fiction stories in the medium during that generation.
Developed by Eidos Montreal, Human Revolution represented a careful revival of a franchise that had been dormant for years. The cyberpunk visual design draws heavily on Renaissance aesthetics, running gold and black through every environment and interface element in a way that gives the game a distinctly unified look. It was released during a strong period for ambitious single-player titles on PS3, and it remains a frequently cited example of how to modernize a classic PC franchise for console audiences without gutting what made the original compelling. The standard PS3 edition shipped at $59.99.
