A Toys R Us exclusive released in October 2005 to mark the final chapter of the Star Wars saga, the Holographic Emperor Palpatine is a rework of the ROTS Emperor Palpatine III-12 figure cast entirely in translucent purple plastic to recreate the holographic image transmissions seen throughout the film. The effect is screen-accurate to the many scenes in which Darth Sidious communicates via hologram — including his pivotal Order 66 broadcast. One collector-noted quirk of this release: because the base III-12 sculpt has a spring-loaded action feature in the right arm, that mechanism is clearly visible through the translucent purple plastic. It's a minor but charming detail that adds a bit of "behind the curtain" character to the figure. Comes with a lightsaber accessory, also cast in translucent plastic.
