Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol. 5 #95 is one of the most significant keys in the IDW run — the issue where Jennika, Splinter's loyal chunin and second-in-command of the Foot Clan, is transformed into a mutant turtle, becoming the fifth member of the Ninja Turtles family. Stabbed by Karai with a mystical sword and left dying while Karai's forces blocked any path to a hospital, the Turtles resort to a last-ditch experimental treatment: injecting her with mutagenic ooze and using Leonardo's blood for an emergency transfusion. The cure works, but the side effect is her transformation. The issue ends on that cliffhanger, with Jennika beginning to wake up changed. She would go on to wear a yellow bandana and wield her Foot Clan tekkō-kagi as the fifth Turtle. The issue sold out at distributor level and went to a second printing immediately.
