Robin King is one of the darkest concepts to come out of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Dark Nights: Death Metal event, a version of Bruce Wayne who never lost his parents, grew up to be a sociopathic killer, and armed himself with weapons designed to murder every hero in the DC universe. McFarlane Toys captured the character in their DC Multiverse line as part of the 2021 Darkfather Build-A wave, a four-figure assortment where each figure includes a piece of the massive Darkfather Collect-to-Build figure. Robin King is figure 1 of 4 in that wave, making him the anchor of the set.
McFarlane's DC Multiverse figures in this era were a significant step up in sculpt detail and articulation over the competition, and the Death Metal wave in particular leaned into the grotesque, over-designed aesthetic of the source material. At 7 inches, the line sat in its own scale niche, and the Death Metal characters gave sculptors room to work with heavily stylized armor, capes, and weaponry that translated well from Capullo's linework. Robin King's design is especially distinctive, a Robin costume twisted into something sinister, which makes this figure a natural centerpiece for any Death Metal display.
This is a single figure from a collector-focused wave. Completing the Darkfather Build-A requires all four figures from the assortment.
