Gang Hyuk Lim cover.

West Coast Avengers (2018) #9 is part of Kelly Thompson's run on the relaunched series, which brought together Kate Bishop's Hawkeye, America Chavez, Gwenpool, and a rotating cast of LA-based heroes for a tone that balanced action with sharp character comedy. This issue is a key chapter in the run: it delivers the first appearance and origin of Alloy (Ramone Watts), establishing how she bonds with a Vibranium family heirloom to develop a symbiote-like exo-suit and gain her powers. That makes it the origin issue for a character introduced within Thompson's own run on the title.

The broader story arc running through this stretch of issues involves the team facing the vampires of the Shifting Sun, and issue #9 keeps that threat front and center while using it as the frame for Ramone's transformation. Thompson's writing throughout the series gave new and obscure characters room to develop, and Ramone's origin lands squarely in that tradition. Gang Hyuk Lim handles interior pencils, bringing clean, expressive linework to the action and character moments alike.

This is a raw, ungraded copy in standard single-issue format from Marvel's 2018-2019 West Coast Avengers series.

Series Title: The West Coast Avengers, Vol. 3 (2018-2019)

Issue: 9

Cover Artist: Gang Hyuk Lim

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Gang Hyuk Lim

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Publication Year: 2019

Printing: 1st Print

Key Issue: First appearance and origin of Alloy (Ramone Watts)

*PHOTO DISCLAIMER: All photos are of the actual items, unless marked as pre-order.
