Nic Klein Design Cover.

Thor, Vol. 6 #2C is the Nic Klein Design Cover variant for the second issue of Donny Cates and Nic Klein's 2020 Thor run. The issue carries the story title 'Lightning and Hunger,' the second chapter of the 'Devourer King' arc, which centers on Thor's confrontation with Galactus and brings Balder the Brave and Volstagg into the conflict. The Cates/Klein run relaunched Thor with a harder, more cosmic register, and the design cover shows Thor in full color on Klein's design sheet, with his costume notes written around the figure.

The story arc threads the cosmic mythology that defined Cates's tenure: Galactus as a figure of genuine dread rather than recurring spectacle, with the supporting cast of Asgardians caught in the gravitational pull of something far larger. Issue #2 deepens that setup with a story beat that has drawn attention from readers tracking the run as a whole. The design cover, distinct from the standard and other variant covers of this issue, is a format Marvel used selectively across the line during this period, making it a different object than the story covers for the same issue.

Nic Klein served as both interior artist and cover artist throughout the early run, giving the series an unusual visual consistency from page to cover. His work on Thor brought a painted, cinematic quality to the character that contrasted with prior treatments, and the design cover captures that sensibility at the structural level. This is a raw, ungraded copy in the first printing.

Characters: Galactus (Galan), Balder the Brave, Volstagg

Original MSRP: $3.99

Series Title: Thor, Vol. 6

Issue: #2

Cover: C (Variant Nic Klein Design Cover)

Cover Artist: Nic Klein

Writer: Donny Cates

Artist: Nic Klein

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Publication Year: 2020

Printing: 1st Print

Variant Type: Design Cover

Key Issue: Reference to the destruction of the DC Universe (story event)

Story Arc: "The Devourer King", Part Two: "Lightning and Hunger"

*PHOTO DISCLAIMER: All photos are of the actual items, unless marked as pre-order.
