The issue carries significant key-issue weight at the book level: it is the first appearance of the Drengir, the plant-based horror-villains who become central antagonists across the High Republic publishing initiative, and the first cameo appearance of Imri Cantaros, a Force-sensitive character developed further across the line. These are book-layer firsts present in every printing and cover variant of this issue.

This copy is the Will Sliney Wanted Comix exclusive trade variant, a store exclusive produced for Wanted Comix. The cover, by Will Sliney, depicts Marchion Ro, Eye of the Nihil, in what research identifies as his first cover appearance. The trade variant is the standard-cover edition of the Wanted Comix exclusive release; a matching virgin variant was produced alongside it. Wanted Comix exclusives are ordered directly through the retailer and do not appear in standard distribution.

The 2021 High Republic series launched the first phase of Marvel's contribution to Lucasfilm's interconnected High Republic publishing project, set roughly 200 years before the Skywalker Saga. Cavan Scott writes across multiple High Republic titles, and this issue sits at an early pivot point in the arc where the Drengir threat begins to take shape alongside the ongoing Nihil storyline. For collectors working through High Republic keys, issue #3 holds two confirmed firsts and an exclusive cover tied to a character who becomes a primary villain of the era.

Characters: Keeve Trennis, Sskeer, Avar Kriss, Drengir, Imri Cantaros, Marchion Ro

Franchise: Star Wars

Series Title: Star Wars: The High Republic

Issue: #3

Cover: Wanted Comix Exclusive Trade Variant

Cover Artist: Will Sliney

Writer: Cavan Scott

Artist: Ario Anindito

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Publication Year: 2021

Variant Type: Store Exclusive (Wanted Comix)

Key Issue: 1st appearance of the Drengir; 1st cameo appearance of Imri Cantaros

Story Arc: There Is No Fear, Part 3

*PHOTO DISCLAIMER: All photos are of the actual items, unless marked as pre-order.
