Todd McFarlane virgin cover.

Spawn #299 arrives as one of the final chapters before the landmark 300th issue, carrying the weight of the 'War to 300' storyline that Todd McFarlane built toward across the preceding run. This is the virgin variant of the Todd McFarlane color cover, presenting the cover art without trade dress, logos, or issue information. McFarlane handles both writing and cover art here, with Jason Shawn Alexander on interior art, a pairing that defined the look of Spawn's late 200s era.

The key-issue status of Spawn #299 centers on The Rapture, Heaven's answer to the Four Horsemen, making their team appearance in this issue. The virgin format strips the cover down to the art alone, which makes it the format of choice for collectors who want the McFarlane image unobscured. Characters in the issue include Spawn (Al Simmons), Jessica Priest, and Cy-Gor, filling out the corner of the Spawn universe that McFarlane was actively reshaping heading into the milestone.

Characters: Spawn (Al Simmons), Jessica Priest, Cy-Gor

Series Title: Spawn

Issue: #299

Cover: B (Variant Todd McFarlane Color Virgin Cover)

Cover Artist: Todd McFarlane

Writer: Todd McFarlane

Artist: Jason Shawn Alexander

Publisher: Image Comics

Publication Year: 2019

Variant Type: Virgin Cover

Key Issue: 1st team appearance of The Rapture

*PHOTO DISCLAIMER: All photos are of the actual items, unless marked as pre-order.
