Written and drawn by Todd McFarlane, with interior art by Jason Shawn Alexander, the issue was part of the extended Spawn Vol. 1 run that McFarlane has kept alive since 1992, still personally scripting and contributing covers well into its third hundred issues.

This is the black-and-white variant cover, rendered by Todd McFarlane and Francesco Mattina. Mattina had been the regular cover artist on Spawn through this period, producing his trademark high-contrast, painted-style covers; the black-and-white version strips the color away to show the linework and tonal construction underneath. McFarlane's involvement as co-cover artist on this variant adds a direct creator connection to the physical object. The cover is designated 293D in the publisher's variant labeling.

As a low-ordered variant tied to a first-appearance issue, this copy brings together two reasons collectors pursue it: the book-level key and the cover format. The black-and-white presentation is a distinct collectible artifact from the standard cover run.

Original MSRP: $2.99

Series Title: Spawn

Issue: #293

Cover: D (Black & White Variant)

Cover Artist: Todd McFarlane, Francesco Mattina

Writer: Todd McFarlane

Artist: Jason Shawn Alexander

Publisher: Image Comics

Publication Year: 2019

Variant Type: Black & White Cover

Key Issue: 1st appearance of Godsend, a member of the Rapture

*PHOTO DISCLAIMER: All photos are of the actual items, unless marked as pre-order.
