Michael Straczynski's ambitious superhero series from Top Cow Productions and Image Comics, published in June 2000. The story, titled 'Initiations: A Lost Tale of the Specials,' serves as supplemental mythology for the Rising Stars universe, offering background material on the Specials, ordinary people granted extraordinary abilities after a mysterious event in Pederson, Illinois. The issue features Poet (John Simon), Matthew Bright, and Patriot (Jason Miller), three of the series' central characters, in a story that expands the world beyond the main 24-issue run. Rising Stars was J. Michael Straczynski's first creator-owned comic, the book that launched his Joe's Comics imprint at Top Cow.

Rising Stars ran from 1999 through 2005 and stands as one of the more character-driven superhero series to emerge from the Image/Top Cow stable of that era. Straczynski brought his television writing sensibility to the book, grounding the premise in human drama rather than spectacle. The zero issue was produced as a companion piece to the ongoing series, giving readers a self-contained window into the Specials' world. The cover is the A variant of the issue.

Characters: Poet (John Simon), Matthew Bright, Patriot (Jason Miller)

Original MSRP: $2.50

Series Title: Rising Stars

Issue: #0

Cover: A

Writer: J.
